Industry Spotlight

The Well Armed Woman

With the number of women interested in and purchasing firearms for personal protection skyrocketing, the firearm industry has been slow to meet the unique and specific needs of female shooters. Until TWAW started, there was not a complete and comprehensive resource for women that answers their questions, provides guidance, as well as offers products for women to safely handle and carry a firearm.

The Well Armed Woman was founded in 2012 by Carrie Lightfoot, an entrepreneur with a background in small business start ups, e- commerce and marketing. Whether it’s the ins and outs of armed self-defense, gun ownership, gun safety, shooting skills, or products for women shooters… TWAW has it covered. This is how they stay true to their mission of helping to “educate, empower and equip women gun owners.”

In Carrie’s own words, “When I began thinking about purchasing and carrying a gun several years ago, there was no single resource for a woman gun owner and shooter. I was frustrated and disappointed to discover that there were so few resources out there that provided straight forward and complete information and products geared specifically toward me as a woman gun owner in this male-driven industry. The information I did find was often condescending and sometimes downright insulting. They simply weren’t talking to me or meeting my needs as a woman interested in gun ownership. Now, The Well Armed Woman is the complete resource for the woman gun owner.”

We’ve got a great one for you this week!

Lafayette Gun Club

Founded in 1948 as a private gun club, Lafayette Gun Club was established to encourage organized firearm shooting and to develop individual marksmanship skills, with a view toward better knowledge of the safe handling and proper care of firearms.

The primary use of Lafayette Gun Club (LGC) is individual shooting by their members and their guests. However, there are many on-going, organized shooting activities and competitions.
AND MORE

“LGC is constantly looking for ways to apply its unique membership expertise and facilities to serve surrounding Peninsula communities. For example, LGC provides facilities, certified instructors and volunteer members for community service activities to include the Boy Scout Merit Badge Training, High School ROTC Rifle Teams, Law Enforcement Training, and Hunter Safety Courses.

The Lafayette Gun Club fosters the development of patriotism, honesty, good fellowship, self-discipline, team play, self reliance and personal responsibility.”

For all these reasons, they are definitely worthy of being our community organization of the week. Congratulations to them and we expect they will keep up the great work!
